Rana raises 'Jai Telangana' slogan

Rana Daggubati had to hail 'Jai Telangana' when some T-activists tried to stall the shooting of his forthcoming film Leader at Singareni.  Leader, which is slated for a release before the Sankranthi, was shooting its patch work at the place when some activists barged their way into the shooting spot and attempted to stall it.

To make sure that the shooting of his film goes uninterrupted, Rana decided to make a loud shouting of 'Jai Telangana,' sources revealed.

The situation turned tense when Rana's car was not allowed to move by the shoals of activists.  That was when the debutante got out of the car and raised the famous slogan.  He was then allowed to make a move.

The incident is the latest instance of attempted attack of some T-activists who tried to vandalise a Telugu film unit.

Bharat, Priyamani in 'Bet'

Bet is a film that has love and friendship as its crucial elements.  It stars Bharat and Priyamani in the leads.  Directed by Suresh Krishna, the film's Telugu version is produced by Tondapu Nageshwara Rao.

Genelia denies marriage

The Boys’ girl Genelia D’Souza is upset with rumours of her wedding with actor Riteish Deshmukh. A Mumbai tabloid had reported the romance between Genelia and Riteish that developed on the sets of “Tujhe Meri Kasam” six years ago is concluding in marriage this year.

But Genelia says she isn’t getting married to anyone for the time being.

“To set the record straight, I am not getting married to anyone. I have always maintained that my personal life is not something I would like to discuss. But this time since it was something that would affect my family, I decided to take a stand,” said Genelia in a statement released on Tuesday.

My films and my brands are my priority as of now and I’d like to keep it that way. And if I do decide to settle down, you will hear it from me when as and when it happens,” says the actress.

Genelia is right now looking forward to the release of “Chance Pe Dance” in which she is paired with Shahid Kapoor. The film releases on January 15.

Train to Andhra? Please carry extra food

Carry lots of food and water if you are taking a train passing through Andhra Pradesh. This is what authorities are saying in view of the unending rail blockades in the state.

Transport services across Andhra Pradesh have again been hit as supporters and opponents of a separate Telangana state stopped trains and buses.

Dozens of trains have been halted in Kadapa, Guntur and Krishna districts. These include the Kerala Express and the Macherla Express. Rail blockades have been reported from many railway stations, causing inconvenience to passengers whose stocks of food and water are running out.

In Warangal district, protesters Tuesday stopped the Gorakhpur Express. Three passenger and three express trains were detained at Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district near here.

The South Central Railway has cancelled 89 trains, including 63 MMTS (multi-modal transport system) and local trains in Hyderabad.

Different strokes on Telangana

Representatives of eight political parties have only given their piece of mind to the Centre at the all-party meeting convened by Home Minister P Chidambaram on Telangana issue, but gave their own version before the media after the meeting.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah, as usual, was at his elusive best, saying that he did not want to say anything. He refused to comment when asked whether there was a resolution on the Telangana issue in the meeting. All that he said was that the law and order situation in the state is under control. “I have not been in the state for two days. But I have been speaking to the officials. Now the situation is under control,” he said.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao said his party would wait for Centre’s final stand on the issue before making a comment, while Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi expressed dissatisfaction over the meeting. He reiterated that his party stood for a united Andhra Pradesh.

Bharatiya Janata Party president Bandaru Dattatreya and his Andhra colleague Haribabu said they wanted bifurcation of the state for the better development of both the regions. They said they had told Chidambaram that the party would support the Bill on Telangana introduced in the next session of Parliament.

Telangana: No consensus at all-party meeting

The all-party meeting on Telangana convened by Home Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi ended on Tuesday (January 5) with leaders appealing for maintaining peace, harmony and law order in Andhra Pradesh.

"We representatives of 8 recognised political parties of Andhra Pradesh attended the meeting convened by the Home Minister. We have expressed our views at the meeting and they have been noted by the Central government.

"Meanwhile, it is our earnest appeal that peace, harmony and law and order should be maintained in the state," said a joint statement, signed by leaders, issued at the end of the meeting.

No decision was taken at the meeting after which TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao told reporters "we are waiting for the final response".

Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi said he had made clear his party's stand that it stood for a united Andhra Pradesh. "It is only the beginning of the process," he said without elaborating.

Asked if he was satisfied with the meeting, he said "to some extent." BJP state unit chief Bandaru Dattatreya said the UPA and the Congress party should make their stand clear on the Telangana issue.

He quoted the Home Minister as saying that he would convey the views of the leaders expressed in the meeting to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after which the road map for the consultations process would be drawn.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah, TRS leader K K S Rao and Uttamkumar Reddy (both Cong) and Y Ramakrishna Du and R Prakash (both TDP), state BJP unit chief Bandaru Dattareya and his colleague Hari Babu, B V Raghavalu and J Rangareddy (CPI-M), K Narayanan and Malesh (CPI) and Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi of MIM also attended the meeting.

AP heading towards President Rule?

Indications are that Andhra Pradesh is heading towards the President’s Rule very soon, in the wake of volatile political situation in the state.

One would get this feeling on seeing the face of Chief Minister K Rosaiah after he came out of the all-party meeting conducted by Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday. In-charge Governor ESL Narasimhan, who is presently in Delhi, is understood to have submitted a report to the Home Ministry stating that the only way to bring normalcy in the state at present is to impose the President’s Rule.

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi, too, suggested to Chidambaram at the meeting that President’s Rule should be imposed in order to restore normalcy in the state. He, however, did not spell out his stand stating that it would depend on the decision to be taken by the Centre.

A clear picture is likely to emerge in a day or two, depending on the law and order situation in the state.

Peace first, Telangana later

As expected, the all-party meeting called by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram at New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss statehood for Telangana ended without achieving any consensus among the political parties.

Chidambaram, who later went to meet the Prime Minister and apprise him of the outcome of the meeting, is expected to make a statement in the evening. “It was a good meeting and everybody expressed their views. It is quite clear that views of political parties are divided. I summed up their views and will take them to the Prime Minister and formulate course of action,” Chidambaram told the media after the meeting.

He said the political parties were keen on completing the consultation process within a specific time frame. “I appeal to state government and political parties to maintain peace. Political parties are not opposed to the idea of a mechanism being put in place. All political parties have decided there will be further consultation on this issue," added the Home Minister.

The only consensus achieved at the meeting was on achieving peace, harmony and law and order in the State. The parties then signed a joint statement which read: “We representatives of eight recognised political parties of Andhra Pradesh attended the meeting convened by the Home Minister. We have expressed our views at the meeting and they have been noted by the Central Government. Speaking about their film, producers Chandrasekhara Rao and Dammulapati Srinivasa Rao said, "Kalavar King is the apt title going by the hero's characterisation.  The title is already on the lips of the audience even prior to release."

The film is set in the backdrop of city and the hero is someone who has no iota of thought for studies or family.  All he knows is tricking people.  Kalavar King shows what happens when such a youth falls in love.

Even as his debut film Leader is about to hit the screens, Rana has got lucky to get a Bollywood film offer.  Yes, the Daggubati scion has reportedly been offered a meaty role by Rohan Sippy, the maker of Kuch Na Kaho and Bluffmaster.  The Hindi film will have two male actors playing the lead.  If Rana is the second hero, the first one is Abishek Bacchan.

The news is a big surprise to everyone as no one expected the actor to go Bollywood even so early in his career.  How did he land in the project?  The story goes that Rohan had an opportunity to watch the promos of Leader and he was impressed with Rana's screen presence, especially the looks.  What more, the junior Sippy felt that Rana looks like a typical Goan, and it is how the Leader actor bagged the role of a Goan musician in the film on drug racket in India's smallest state.

Rana must certainly be upbeat about the offer because it means going national in his very first month in films.  Though an official confirmation is yet to come from the actor, the Sippys have already confirmed that they are doing the film with the Telugu actor.

Rocket Singh remake in Telugu

Yash Raj’s moving film ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year’ will have a Telugu name.

The movie is set to be remade in Telugu and Telugu star Allari Naresh will play the role of Ranbir.

It’s not clear whether the protagonist will be a Sardar but the remake is definitely on cards with some minor changes.

The official confirmation from Yash Raj is still to come but sources from the studio had confirmed the news of the remake.

Property prices slump in 'Cyberabad'

"BEST BARGAIN: Plots measuring 200 square yards each and worth Rs 6 lakh at Shamshabad airport area are up for sale for Rs 4 lakh only. Contact Ms Nandya, Best Avenues,” reads an SMS doing the rounds in Hyderabad.

The text message reflects the grim real estate scenario in and around the cyber city. The ongoing agitation for a separate state of Telangana has crippled the sector, already hit hard in the past one year because of the global meltdown.

And since the Telangana agitation gained momentum in the last week of November, real estate transactions have come to a grinding halt in the state capital.

Builders who have completed their ventures are even ready to sell property for low profits, but buyers are preferring to wait, hoping the prices will further plummet.

“ Already, there is a drop of 20- 25 per cent in the price of flats in the last few weeks. The average cost of a flat which was around Rs 3,300 per sq ft in a fast- growing area such as Dilsukhnagar and Kukatpally has come down to Rs 2,500. Still, the buyers are waiting for the prices to fall further,” K. Vishnuvardhan Sarma of Vaishnavi Builders, which targets middle- class buyers, said.

C. Shekhar Reddy, president of AP Builders’ Forum, said the recession- hit sector had already been stagnating, as a result of which the prices already crashed.

Many real estate ventures launched in high- profile areas such as Gachibowli, Gopannapalli, Manikonda, Vattinagulapalli and Tellapur before the meltdown are either still under construction or failed to take off because of the lack of prospective buyers — mostly software professionals and entrepreneurs.

“ We had paid huge amounts as advance to landowners from whom we took the plots for building residential complexes.

But we had to stop construction midway because of the recession.

At a time when the real estate sector started showing the signs of recovery, the Telangana agitation has come as a bolt from the blue. All our activities have come to a standstill again,” a real estate developer in the Gopannapalli area said.

P. Nagaraju, chairman of the PNR group of constructions, said there were no buyers even if the builders offered the flats at low prices. “ Worse still, those who booked some of the flats are now pressuring us to return the advance amount. They are prepared to forfeit a lakh or two, but want to cancel their bookings, fearing that the property values will come down drastically in future,” Nagaraju, one of the top 10 real estate dealers in Hyderabad, said.

“ The sooner the Telangana issue is resolved, the better. We don’t mind the formation of a separate state. At least then, the real estate activity will pick up,” he said.

Interestingly, the property prices have started shooting up in the Vijayawada- Guntur area because of speculation that the belt will be made the capital of Andhra in the event of the formation of a separate Telangana.

According to reports, real estate prices in Vijayawada have gone up by 15- 20 per cent in the last month.

President of the Vijayawada Builders’ Association, Gadde Rajling, said there was a sudden increase in the sale of apartments.

“ The number of customers making inquiries about and buying new flats has shot up,” he said, adding that some buyers were even bulk- booking apartments on the outskirts of the city.

Electronic-Media Is The Main CULPRIT

What began as a normal fast unto death for the foul mouthed KCR has now made him into a messiah for a few fanatics. All this is to separate the state of Andhra Pradesh into two and create a separate Telangana state. Barely twenty days has changed the entire scenario of Andhra Pradesh and given the rapid development, many have been trying to figure out the causes for this mess. All fingers are pointing towards one direction – the electronic media.

It is an open secret that the flurry of news channels that are currently around has created a rat race and the urge to get maximum TRP ratings has dumped ethics and the ideal role of a media channel into the drain. Right now, it is all about ad revenues, sensations and breaking news. Unfortunately, it is the people and the viewers who become victims of this. The news channels have been glorifying every single thing and running the same news again and again creating a psychological influence on the viewers.

Their over-action has been prompting even the silent people to cause some noise so that they can fall in the camera lens. It can be recalled during the burning of buses and damaging incident that not one face was showing anguish. Instead, they were laughing and making merry out of this anarchy.

To add to the woes, the channels interview such mindless wimps making them heroes. One major blunder as per many viewers is the forum being conducted by HMTV titled ‘Dasa Disa’.  It is very clear that the HMTV is pro- Telangana and they are doing whatever they can to spread the T-word. Ironically, when one of the Rayalaseema leader Chandrasekhara Reddy stated clearly that the cause for this ‘Disa’ to the state is also media, the head of the channel says ‘thank you’. This goes to show the kind of people who are sitting in the media desks and corrupting the minds of the people.

It is a shame we have to see such things in our lives and if the e-media continues their rampage solely for money then the day is not far when they will have to shut down their shops.

JAC threatens to stall Andhra travellers

The Joint Action Committee of students on Sunday threatened to stall the return of lakhs of non-Telangana people who leave Hyderabad for their respective places in Andhra and Rayalaseema for the Sankranti festival, if the Centre does not take a positive stand on Telangana state formation at the January 5 meeting.

“Nearly 30 lakh people go to their native places in Andhra for the Sankranti festival. If the Centre does not grant separate statehood for Telangana, they will not come back to Hyderabad. We will stop entry of all the transport facilities into Hyderabad. It is going to be a war in Hyderabad,” the JAC leaders warned.

The JAC leaders also called for “Rail Roko” on January 5 and stop all trains leaving from and coming to Hyderabad. “We will fight like Gujjars and stall the transport facilities by all means, unless the Telangana is granted,” they said.

'Vidyarthi Garjana' Or 'Naxal Garjana'?

A big mass gathering happened at Osmania University in the name of ‘Telangana Vidyarthi Garjana’. But people watching the show on small screens opined that it is sounding like ‘Naxal Garjana’ than ‘Vidyarthi Garjana’. The artistes sang songs on dais with dances showing ‘Gaddarisms’. Vimalakka is one of the main singers in the show. ‘Akka’ in general refers to naxalite, as many opined.

A man with female tone shouted from dais stating:

• We would smash the party offices be it NTR Bhavan, Gandhi Bhavan or anything if anyone talks against Telangana
• We will not allow the Andhra population return to Hyderabad once they go to their places for Sankranthi Holidays.
• We have battered Nagam on the other day just for the reason he praised Chandrababu (remember! KCR tried to manipulate that on the same day stating that students didn’t hit him but some goondas)
• JP should change his route to walk on Telangana land
• Chandrababu should take Telangana stand to see his yellow flag here
• If anyone tries to disturb Telangana students and their movement, he will see his last minutes
• The students who lost lives in movement should be given Rs 10 lakh each as they are ‘martyrs and amara veerulu’!!!

“The way the speakers shouting from Vidyarthi Garjana are sounding like Naxal Garjana. The state is becoming prey for Naxals”, saying public.

Adding to this KCR from his TRS office said, “As court asked politicians to stay away from that gathering we stayed back. But Rosiah’s government didn’t allow more than 1 lakh students those tried to come from different corners of Telangana districts. That is injustice caused”.

Channel provokes students against Naidu

A private television channel on Sunday instigated Telangana students against Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu by giving a scrolling, saying Naidu had taken a decision in favour of Samaikyandhra (united Andhra Pradesh). The scrolling appeared at a time when the Telangana students were celebrating the massive “Vidyarthi Garjana” (roar of students) at the Osmania University campus. Within minutes, the information was passed on to the leaders of Joint Action Committee of students, who came down heavily on the TDP president for ditching the Telangana. They threatened to demolish the TDP in Hyderabad and rest of Telangana for taking such a stand. On knowing the information, Telangana TDP leaders like Nagam Janardhan Reddy and others rushed to Naidu’s residence and sought to know whether it was the correct news. Later, Nagam clarified that there was no truth in the reports and that the TDP was still committed to the cause of Telangana. A JAC leader, who was sympathetical to the TDP, also made the announcement from the OU stage, saying that the channel gave the wrong news. The channel, too, withdrew the scrolling later, before it exploded all over the Telangana!

'Don't invite Chiru for Delhi meeting'

Two rebel Praja Rajyam Party MLAs from Telangana – Maheshwar Reddy from Nirmal in Adilabad and Anil from Balkonda in Nizamabad district – on Friday appealed to the Centre not to invite party president Chiranjeevi for the January 5 meeting to decide the Telangana issue.

The two MLAs said by opposing the formation of Telangana state, Chiranjeevi has lost moral authority to talk about the issue. “Soon after he declared support for United Andhra, the PRP has been completely wound up in the Telangana region. There are no district units for the party now; and all the PRP activists have disowned Chiranjeevi as their leader. How can he represent our case with the Centre?” they asked.

They appealed to Home Minister Chidambaram to send an invitation to either of the two MLAs to participate in the January 5 meeting.
