Telangana Hyderabad, Dec 14 (IANS) The main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh stood divided over the issue of a separate Telangana state with the legislators from the region Monday demanding the bifurcation of the party.
TDP legislators from Telangana held a meeting here and passed a resolution urging Naidu to open a separate branch of the party for the region.
“We have passed a resolution appealing to our party president to open a separate branch for Telangana,” TDP’s deputy leader in the state assembly Nagam Janardhan Reddy told reporters.
The demand was made even as Naidu was addressing a separate press conference at the party headquarters blaming the Congress for complicating the issue of separate Telangana by making an announcement without consulting anybody.
Naidu admitted that the issue had divided all the parties along regional lines but hoped that his party would come out with a solution in a couple of days after a thorough debate.
The central government had last week announced that it would initiate the process of formation of Telangana state and that a resolution would be moved in the state assembly.
Accompanied by other TDP legislators from the region, Janardhan Reddy raised slogans of “Jai Telangana” and said they would fight to achieve the separate state.
Janardhan Reddy, who is also a former minister, demanded that the Congress-led government in New Delhi move a bill in parliament to carve Telangana state.
“Passing a resolution in the assembly is not necessary. It is a delaying tactic by the Congress. It should immediately table a bill in parliament,” he said.
The TDP legislators held a meeting after assembly Speaker Kirankumar Reddy adjourned the house sine die amid uproar over Telangana.
The legislators from the other two regions of Andhra Pradesh — coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema — vehemently oppose the division of the state.
